WEANING MASTERCLASS by Sarah Almond Bushell.

A comprehensive online course covering everything from critical nutrients to bringing up your baby vegetarian, to the practicalities of how to start weaning and what to do next depending on your baby's response.

This is a one stop shop for weaning advice you can trust - removing all the nonsense and confusion that the internet / your neighbour / your mother-in-law offers.

By the end of the course you will have a step-by-step food, milk and feeding guide to the second 6 months of your baby's life.

The course covers:

  • When, how and which way to start weaning - so that you can make an informed choice between traditional, baby led weaning or a combination approach, knowing exactly what to give, the essential equipment and the right time to start. Hint this is not always at 6 months!

  • Your baby’s nutritional needs and the critical nutrients required - so that you give the right food to optimise growth and brain development enhancing intellect, concentration and behaviour later in childhood.

  • Guidance on food preparation and meal planning - so that you know when to give drinks, snacks, puddings and how to prepare food safely for young immune systems.

  • Responsive feeding - so that you know what to do when she throws everything on the floor, refuses to eat and paints her high chair with yoghurt!

  • Managing illness - so that you have dietary strategies for when your baby is poorly, constipated, has diarrhoea, reflux or just generally under the weather.

  • Allergy concerns -  so that you know how to introduce foods safely and in a way that reduces risk of developing food allergies.

  • Milk and milk feeds - so that you know which types are best and how to fit milk feeds in to your baby’s day so that you don’t feel like you’re forever offering her food or milk!

  • Shop bought and homemade baby foods - so that you can make informed decisions about using pouches and puffs and which foods are right for your baby and family circumstances.

This is the ‘The Ultimate Package’ you also get:

  • exclusive access to me in the private Facebook group

  • plus a one-to-one personalised weaning consultation via FaceTime or Skype

My experiences as a mummy coupled with my knowledge of nutrition led me to dive deeper into weaning to truly understand what mums need to know to give their babies the best start in life. My intention is to provide you with the correct, evidence based information, the reasons behind the advice and allow you to make an informed decision on how you wish to feed your baby.

My weaning story

It might help you to know that I’ve been in your shoes, I breastfed my first baby till his first birthday, he started solids at 5 months and loved it! Weaning progressed beautifully and he was quickly on 3 meals a day. This was great; he was doing exactly what I expected for successful weaning. But as a toddler we discovered that he was anaemic. He hadn’t been getting enough iron. I was giving him red meats, pulses, fortified breakfast cereals, green leafy veggies and dried fruits…I thought I was doing it right. I was shocked! I was a paediatric dietitian after-all; this is what I did for a living! But he loved his milk. He was a guzzler and on reflection I probably used the boob as dummy too. He was having too much milk and was not hungry enough to have enough food at mealtimes.

My second baby was no easier, she was a reluctant feeder. She was tiny. Had eczema and reflux and required constant clothing changes after near continuous vomiting! Moreover she didn’t gain weight ninth way that you would expect. It turned out that she was allergic to egg, and food (and my breastmilk) made her feel ill. She hated feeding and food. Once I identified the problem food and cut it out of both our diets, her eczema disappeared, she stopped vomiting and began to thrive! She’s still a fussy eater now, reluctant to try new foods and has taught me a thing or two about managing picky eaters too.

Testimonials:

  • “For me it’s great that you explain why, and treat us like grown ups! Too often this stuff is patronising and over simplified. ‘Give us mums the info in a clear non judgemental way - and let us decide what is the right thing for us & our kids’ -is what I think parenting support should be, and this seems to be exactly your tone.” Laura

  • "I had no idea that the balance of food and milk was so important to get right, lots of my friends had told me not to worry to much about food but now I know thats not right" Hayley

  • "knowing about the critical nutrients and which foods to find them in is so helpful, I want to give J the best start in life and I had no idea that nutrition could effect here intelligence levels and ability to behave well when she's older. All mums and dads need this information". Janet

  • "An online course broken up into short bitesize video's is so helpful, its hard to concentrate when you've got a demanding baby - D has colic...being able to dip in and out of something online at my convenience is a fantastic idea" Martine

  • "Having the Facebook group and access to you is so reassuring, I know that I can show up and ask a question and you as an expert will answer it for me" Lucy

  • “I’m currently half way through the online course and day 3 of weaning (only purées for now) but wanted to say I’m learning lots already, especially advise on feed timings, salt & sugars, equipment needed and even how to choose the correct high chair….I’m a cautious weaner, especially as D is a pre-term baby. I’ve been making lots of notes and can not wait to get stuck in with experimenting with food, flavours and textures. I know it won’t be easy and I expect mess.” Tina

  • “Just want to day thank you for the course. I find it incredibly informative and empowering actually to start the weaning journey with my little one! Your FB support has been amazing too. So glad I signed up for this”. Tam

  • “I’m in the Facebook Group and I love that you always keep so up to date with the most recent research and studies on topics”. Amy

FAQ’s

How do I know that the information you give me is right?

Well I'm asking you to trust me on this one, I'm a Registered Dietitian which means that I'm regulated by law to only give out evidence based advice, I'm not allowed to influence you in any way and I must give you a balanced view of both sides of the story so you can make an informed choice.

Why should I do a course when I can get this information from my Health Visitor?

In truth...you can't get the full depth of information that I've got for you from your Heath Visitor. HV's are amazing and do a fantastic job but they are not nutrition professionals. Most area’s buy in weaning courses that are not written by nutrition professionals. And HV’s get their nutrition training from us registered dietitians!

£40 is more than I would pay for a book on weaning - why should I pay more?

In a book - even if your fortunate to find one written by a Registered Dietitian (most are written by mums who have been there, but without a nutrition background) - you will get one persons view on weaning, the books are high on recipes and low on advice. You also have to find time to sit and read it. My course is created in short bitesize video's containing balanced advice so you can watch at your own convenience knowing the info you get is top notch!

Whats the benefit of paying more for the private Facebook group?

Getting access to me via our private Facebook group means you have a trusted source to answer any questions you might have along the way. Read the testimonials above, everyone has commented on how beneficial this has been for them as inevitably, despite your best planning, babies do their own thing and you need advice.

Additionally I use this group to post updates on anything new in the world of weaning, including gadget reviews, recipes, nutrition advice - its your one stop shop to being updated!

But surely all this information is on the internet if I google it?

I'm sure it is, but do you have time to go searching for it? And even more time trying to decipher fact from fiction?
